Jill Saint Cyr

Elevating user experience

About

My name is Jill St. Cyr, and I am a designer and HTML/CSS expert who is passionate about web standards. I also create interactive behavior with jQuery.

I have extensive experience designing, developing, and managing large public-facing sites, intranets, web applications, content management systems (Sitecore, WordPress, SharePoint) and mobile websites. I specialize in providing design and code with an eye on usability, accessibility, and content strategy. I work closely with IT/Development, Creative, Project Management, and Marketing teams. The majority of my work experience has been in an Agile, ASP.NET environment. I keep up-to-date with the industry, and implement HTML5, CSS3 and responsive design solutions as appropriate.

Please contact me by email, Twitter or LinkedIn with job opportunities or other inquiries. You can also download my résumé as a Word document. I look forward to hearing from you!

  • Bingham.com 2012 site

Role: Front-end Development Lead, Core Design Team, Core Technology Team, Core Strategy Team
    Link: www.bingham.com

The most recent Bingham.com redesign project began in late 2010, and the site launched to the public on May 1, 2012. I was a critical member of several of the core teams; helping shape the information architecture, user experience, design and technology of the new site.

I was the sole HTML/CSS developer on the site, and created flexible, semantic HTML5 templates for integration by our talented back-end team. I used CSS3 techniques to accomplish the complex design, and implemented polyfill solutions for patching support in Internet Explorer (including HTML5.js, selectivizr, and CSS3 PIE). I also used jQuery for some of the advanced user interface controls and dynamic behaviors on the site. I worked very closely with the development team throughout the project, participating in daily scrums, planning meetings, and retrospectives; and collaborating on various new requirements, troubleshooting, and verification as needed. Future development will incorporate responsive techniques and microformatting.

In its first month (May 2, 2012 – June 2, 2012), there were 304,677 pageviews, 78,688 unique visitors, an average visit duration of 2:24, and an average of 3.04 pages viewed per visit. The site won a 2012 “Outstanding Website” award in both the Design and Legal categories from the Web Marketing Association.

  • Bingham.com 2007-2012 site

Role: HTML/CSS Developer, Design Team, Strategy Team

Bingham.com had more than 900,000 page views (excluding internal visitors) in March 2011, by more than 74,000 unique visitors. Though this site redesign was finished shortly before I started in Bingham’s Marketing department, I quickly became an important member of the strategic, design and development teams; and actively participated in all section redesigns and functionality upgrades since that time. The site won the Web Marketing Association Legal Standard of Excellence award for outstanding achievement in website development in 2007, 2nd place in the National Legal Marketing Association ‘Your Honor’ awards for Website in 2008, and was a Webby honoree in the Law category in 2008.

    Who can take a sunrise; Sprinkle it in dew;
Cover it in chocolate and a miracle or two?

Jill St. Cyr can. Or, she can make your application do anything else you would like. She does wonders with all her applications. Her designs are professional and beautiful. The usability of her applications come across as sophisticated, straight-forward and easy to use. Jill is impressive. She is a top Web Specialist who is a valuable asset to the team.” — Brian L. • Bingham Information Gateway (BIG)

Role: Lead HTML/CSS Developer, Design Team, Strategy Team

The BIG intranet portal serves as an employee gateway to legal and staff news, firm applications, and integrated search. I was an active member of the strategy and design teams, and was the sole HTML/CSS developer for both the front-end and the administration site (which I designed on my own). Additionally, I helped to design benefits, client information, and revenue dashboards built in Microsoft SilverLight, and hosted in a branded Microsoft SharePoint 2010 site (for which I developed all HTML/CSS). The site won first place in the Web site category of the 2010 National Legal Marketing Association ‘Your Honor’ awards; and a 2011 Sharepoint Innovator award from the International Legal Technology Association for the accompanying financial dashboards.

  • Business Intake System (BiS)

Role: User Experience Designer, Lead HTML/CSS Developer

User research, design and development of the Business Intake System has been ongoing for several years. I was fortunate to become involved at the beginning of the development cycle for this high-profile and high-impact project. I relished the opportunity to make the working lives of disparate members of the firm easier and more productive. I designed each section and device of the site, in addition to recommending changes to related workflows and protocols. I worked closely with the Project Owner, primary Business Analyst, and development team to produce an application which requires little to no training to operate, and substantially reduces the frustration inherent in the former system. I was the lead HTML/CSS developer for this project.

I had the pleasure of working with Jill on a high profile, enterprise-level application. Development was fast paced and, although we typically brought her in at the last minute, she was always helpful, creative and kept us in line with regard to branding considerations. Jill always had a great deal on her plate, but she was always pleasantly willing to help out at the last minute. Although we typically brought her into the game later than we should have, she never let us down. Jill and her skills would be an asset to any organization. I hope to work with her again in the future.” — Carol Keane, former Business Analyst, Bingham McCutchen LLP

  • Internal Email Store & Templates

    Role: Designer, Lead HTML/CSS Developer

My first large-scale project at Bingham was the design and development of the new Internal Evite Template Store. There was a business need for a centralized location which would house easy-to-use, branded, and flexible HTML email templates for firmwide communications. Today the site houses more than 300 templates, and several ancilliary sites have been produced which host departmental update, alert and newsletter templates for the appropriate constituencies. Firm communication has drastically improved aesthetically, remains consistent, and stays in line with the firm’s graphic standards. Since inception I have redesigned and rebuilt the templates several times to improve ease-of-use, aesthetic value, and compliance with changing email application standards. The Internal Template Store was included as part of our 2nd place Identity victory in the 2010 National Legal Marketing Association awards.

  • External Email & Templates

    Role: Designer, Lead HTML/CSS Developer

Bingham puts out a tremendous amount of external email communication, ranging from legal alert notifications to new lawyer announcements and invitations. I designed and developed all HTML/CSS templates and off-template designs since the rebranding. Templated designs are utilized by non-technical staff members to shorten the turnaround time necessary for branded communications, while high-profile events still get my individual attention for unique design and development work.

  • Holiday Cards and Holiday Card Store

    Role: Designer, Developer

For the past few years, I have created a Holiday Card Store where lawyers and staff could select electronic or print greetings to customize and order. Additionally, I designed the firmwide e-card (delivered to more than 60,000 recipients) in 2007, and one of the optional electronic and print cards in 2010.

Jill is a conscientious, smart and reliable colleague. She has to work with many communications/marketing people (like me) and does a great job of translating our requests into actionable projects or forcing us to better articulate what we want. Design projects she has taken on for us are clean, graceful and make sense for our brand. She is an indispensable part of the team.” — Kristin Lorieo, Senior Editorial Coordinator, Bingham McCutchen LLP

    Role: Designer, HTML/CSS Developer

I designed the site (the blog, user templates, etc.) and built it in HTML and CSS, then handed it over to the back-end developer who hooked up a custom Wordspress installation. The wonderful bird and branch illustrations are by simonox at iStockphoto.com.

Jill is a designer with a head for business... She listened carefully to what we wanted, added her own vibrant style, and in very few iterations created exactly what we needed: a clean, sophisticated look with just a touch of whimsy — exactly right for a site about writing, communication, and the oddities of language... I’m convinced that the look and feel of her work helped us secure status as an approved Technorati contributor.” — Jill Baker, owner/author Words on the Fly

  • Every time I've contacted [Jill] for both graphic and website work she has acted quickly, professionally and openly. Her work is of the highest quality, and something which I deeply value is her ability to listen to our ideas and suggestions, something a lot of other designers have difficulty with. I would have no hesitation in using Jill’s services again and would not hesitate in recommending her to family and friends.” — Andy Page, Owner, SpoilerTV
